trip to the beach school

I was invited on Monday by the board members of the Ishahayi Beach School Foundation to visit the school and see the progress on the new building. This foundation is a non-profit organization that promotes and fosters the education of Nigerian children, particularly in the remote Ishahayi – Ikaare area. Here is the website for more information and a way to donate online, if you would like to.

Unfortunately, school was not in session, as we were there during a spring break. We did get to look into all the classrooms and even meet some of the local island children. The school is on a little island along the river and right on the ocean shore. It is west of Lagos and took about an hour to get home (took a little longer to get there because we had to switch boats twice, I'm getting used to things not working right in Nigeria).
I took a lot of pictures and I hope to make it back again soon to visit the children!!
