Random Pics

These are just some things that I have taken pictures of in Nigeria. Thought I would share these all before I head back to the states this week!!

I had to take a picture because these boys were so funny. After school these little ones decided to jump in the pool and then just took off their clothes to play soccer in their underwear.

When it rains, it pours! After a lot of rain, the streets tend to flood so I had to take a picture of the cars passing through the flooded streets.

We found out that we have some pretty obnoxious neighbors. Not sure if it is mating season or what, but there are 2 peacocks that make an awful sound all times of the day and night. just google it and you will see, they sound like dying cats.

A good picture of the ginormousness of Africa (yes that's a word according to me!)

Uyo

This past weekend we spent some time with a bunch of oilmen at the annual golf tournament at Uyo. They have a golf resort there that is pretty nice for Nigeria. Jason had to organize everything this year, so he worked really hard preparing the past couple of weeks. We went up very early on Wednesday morning and came home late Sunday night. Jason played a lot of golf and I spent some time at the pool. There were cocktail receptions and dinners every night. I had a lot of fun and got to know some new ladies from Lagos.

Party-filled Weekend

For all you soccer fans out there, we went to a DHL event on Friday night that featured a legendary Manchester United player, Quinton Fortune. He was such a nice, funny guy and had a great story of getting picked off the streets of South Africa at age 14 to fly to England to play professional soccer, even without knowing a word of English! Ok, enough of soccer. We left the event early to go meet up with some friends at a new Thai restaurant/bar that had a great DJ and we danced all night long :)
I made J take a picture in front of the Vday décor they had up already

Saturday afternoon, we were invited over to a house of one of the consulate workers for Tex-Mex. There were about 50 people there, and the margs, foods and dessert were amazing! The wife made some jalapeno margaritas (I have not even heard of this in Texas) that were excellent. Homemade salsa and 7-layer dip, tons of barbeque pork and beef for fajitas and some yummy desserts made a great first meal of the night.

Ashley and Kristiann threw a great Mardi Gras party on Saturday night. Ashley and her husband are from Louisiana, so she made an excellent red beans and rice (yes second meal of the night was consumed around 10pm). They also had beignets, king cake and hurricanes to make for an authentic N.O. experience! We stayed late with a few other couples, drinking champagne, and showing off my hidden talent of performing 90s rap tunes (to Jason's embarrassment). A little battle might have happened between me and Ashley's husband, but all in good fun!

With our purple, gold and green!

Ghana - Part 4

Last but not least was the relaxing Friday night, Saturday and Sunday at the Labadi Beach Hotel. It was a nice little getaway with buffet breakfast and dinner! We just layed by the pool on Saturday then headed out to dinner at a French restaurant recommended by someone in Lagos. It was delish! Sunday we layed out by the beach. It was a nice relaxing weekend after a couple of long days hiking and riding in the car.

We had a great weekend relaxing and got home very tired on Sunday night. Therefore we were worn out, but still went out to dinner on Monday to celebrate J's birthday! Such an old man now :)

Ghana - Part 3

This is definitely my favorite part of the trip!!!! On the drive back to Accra, we stopped at the Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctury. We bought some bananas and took them into the forest to find the monkeys. And boy did they come out once they saw the bananas!

They were so precious! the ones we saw were about 6 months old - 2 years old. It was funny when they would jump up and try to steal the banana from another monkey that was already eating it out of your hand. They were so nice! no biting or scratching, just peeling and eating the bananas then jumping back to the trees. I wanted to take one home so bad!

there was actually a couple of graves near the monkeys....
at first the guide just got them to show up by handing them a banana.
others saw and starting swinging from the trees to come see!
this was an older one that watched
then it was my turn I had one on my arm peeling when another one jumped up and knocked the other one off!
I loved that the little ones just took their time peeling and eating on my arm. its tail was also wrapped around my leg!
I liked to cuddle it up close instead of holding out my arm like I was supposed to, oops!
Jason's turn

the goats and chickens came out to eat the peels and leftovers
