The Journey: Month Two

Lillian went to the doctor at the end of the first month and had more than made up for the weight loss during her first week of life! She started doing better at tummy time this month, holding her head up a little further as she looked around. She still loves walks outside, although it is so hard to stay awake with the movement of the stroller or against mommy in the sling. She also likes riding in the car and falls asleep after just a few minutes of the movement. She loves watching the "Very Hungry Caterpillar" doll when we shake it above her head. It will stop her crying and she will watch it move from side to side following very intensely. She started sitting in her swing for longer intervals staring at her toys, looking out the window and just relaxing. She smiled for the first time on the 10th of February when Daddy was poking her cheeks and calling her "pretty blueberry" while we got ready for bed. She then smiled at Mama 2 days later as she recognized my voice. It is so sweet to see her finally smiling on purpose at her parents!! She tends to get fussy in the evenings and wants to be held. She will not take the pacifier so running errands can get tough if she does not want to sleep. She has up to 3 hour stretches of sleep at night, but sleeps the best while laying on my chest during the day. She started to look at the board books that I read to her and loves the colorful pictures. She also started sucking on her knuckles as she tries to get her whole fist in her mouth!
At 7.5 weeks, Lillian took her first flight, as we traveled to the states to meet all her friends and family. Although it was a long 16 hour flight with Mama sleeping very little, the princess did amazing and slept, ate, and played in our laps quietly the whole flight! It was about 50 degrees when we finally got to our car at the Houston airport, and she loved her first "cold" air feel on her face. She loved meeting all her family that night that we got into Houston and then my friends the next day at Jen's baby shower. She discovered ceiling fans for the first time, since we do not have those in Abu Dhabi. Its funny to see her just stare at them for the longest time!
We had Lillian's 2 month check up in Houston and absolutely loved the pediatrician, Dr. Torn. She weighed 12 lbs, 11oz (86%) and was 23.75 inches long (95%). She had grown so much, I couldn't believe it! We had to get all of her vaccinations, so that was quite sad to hear her scream, but she ate and slept good after.
